THE
SHOW
I
have always had a favorite, can't miss show. Usually
only one at a time. This is the type of show that I
would race across Boston to make sure I was in home
in time, like the time Melissa and I raced home from
her sister's house one Sunday to get back in time for
X Files.
LOST
It's official now. This is the new SHOW. After X-Files
ended, we were lost with no SHOW. Melissa said
one night we should watch LOST. I had never heard of
it but gave it a whirl. At first I thought, how far
could they go with this?? The whole stranded thing has
been done so many times. However, especialy now at the
end of the second season, they have proved to be much
more than just another stranded show. They've set a
new precedent for TV with made up companies and websites
to make the show seem more real. The first time I saw
one of the fake Hanso Foundation ads, I thought "hey,
are we on the island?" Check out these brilliant
hint links they advertised on TV like a real commercial.
  Lost
Characters

One season put a bunch of hints during the commercials;
pretty unprecedented for a tv show! But, then I lost
my interest when I found out a lot of it was done by
a marketing effort from Sprite! Made me sick. Anyway,
some of the hint links below still have cool Lost hint
stuff.

The
Sheild
Melissa and I were watching something on FX, and we
started seeing the promos for "The Shield",
and we both thought it looked like a very daring and
interesting new show. However, we didn't get around
to watching it until Season 2. The first episode we
watched was the one in which the Strike team uncovered
the money train that they discovered, hid from their
superiors, and began planning to take the drug money
for themselves. Also in this episode was a shocker for
a television show that really raised our eyebrows. Mackey
was trying to convince a Armenian drug lord he was a
corrupt cop that could be bought, so the drug lord told
him to kill one his own men that was a rat. Mackey isn't
that corrupt, and the rat was in fact Mackey's informant.
So, Mackey and Shane find a suicide victim that had
shot himself in the face. Thinking they could pass the
suicide off as the rat to the drug lord, they went to
the suicide to make it look like they had killed him.
They find that the suicide had not blown his face off,
and it was obvious it wasn't the rat. So Mackey goes
"Get my shotgun". Melissa and I sat there
in anticiaption of what he was going to do while I thought
to myself "He's not going to blow this dead dude's
face off, no way, not on TV." KABLAM! Blows the
dude's face off and passes him off as the dead rat to
the drug lord. "WOW!" was my first reaction
to the first show I watched. Still recovering from the
X Files going off air, I have become an instant fan
of The Shield, and it is becoming my new X-Files. We
have watched it ever since and it deserves to be considered
a SHOW since we always tune in for the new episodes.
X-Files
I got into X Files in the second or third season. At
first, I saw the show as a trendy thing that I didn't
want to be a part of. However, I heard how it was about
aliens, which always intrigued me. So, I forced myself
to watch it and became hooked. I was fortunate that
when Melissa and I moved in together in 2001, she was
into the show too. We are one of the few people that
was accepting the new Dogget and Reyes characters, and
now Chris Carter has decided
this (2002) is the last season. Sigh. (added 2-11-02).
Quantum
Leap
Great follow up after Magnum ended.
Magnum
PI
The first SHOW. Nile and I used to joke about how, if
we got pulled over, the police would understand if we
said we were late to see Magnum.

Wings aired up to 1996, and was one of my favorite shows.
I really got into Wings late into the series by watching
re-runs. But now I have 6 VHS tapes with Wings episodes
that I watch over and over, and during real-life situations,
I am constantly saying "That reminds me of the Wings
episode when ...", which I'm sure drives people crazy.
Funny thing is, when I first started watching Wings,
I thought the island they were on was in Hawaii. Later
I found out it was Nantucket, MA. Then, even weirder,
I moved to New Bedford, MA, which is commonly referenced
in Wings episodes and only about 40 minutes away from
Nantucket! Melissa and I finally made it over to visit
Nantucket; it was a little dissapointing because it
was quite different than the common characters of Wings
made it out to be. Nantucket is where the rich of the
rich from Boston buy vacation homes where a million
dollar home is modest. It was nice to visit anyway.

Woops!
This
show didn't last long, and I am fortunate to have some
episodes on tape. It was a cool idea made in the early
1990s. It was a comedy about how we accidentally blew
up the world with nuclear weapons leaving only a handful
of people. All of the people had different personalities
and simulated everyday issues that we have in our society
within a small group of people. See more at Epguides
